For clients with Medicare Advantage Plans (aka Medicare Part C), I can bill the associated commercial insurance carrier as an out of network provider if the plan covers out of network benefits for outpatient psychotherapy. I can bill commercial insurances for clients with plans that cover out of network benefits for outpatient psychotherapy.
I am NOT currently paneled with any commercial insurance companies. Clients' insurance coverage will be verified prior to services being provided. Clients are responsible for paying any copays, coinsurance, or deductibles to be paid out of pocket.

I encourage all clients to use their insurance benefits! Clients without insurance or whom choose not to use their insurance benefits may private pay for sessions. Clients or other designated payors who private pay are billed directly and responsible for full payment.
ABOUT THE THERAPIST
Hi everyone! I’m John Norris, but my preferred name is Davy. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) living in Portland, OR. I grew up in the Southeast U.S., but have called the Arctic then the Pacific Northwest home for over a decade. In my spare time I enjoy arts and crafts, gardening, reading, being in nature, vacationing, and spending time with friends and loved ones. In addition to my private practice, I currently work with a local community mental health agency assessing mental health crises in the community.
I have over a decade of past experience working with older adults and adults of any age with physical or intellectual/developmental disabilities. This experience has been in progressively responsible roles ranging from providing direct care, to case management and care coordination, to investigation of allegations of vulnerable adult abuse in licensed care facilities and community settings.
My clinical experience includes providing individual and group counseling to clients in an outpatient substance treatment program, providing crisis mental health services in a hospital emergency room for clients experiencing a psychiatric emergency, and assessing psychiatric crises in home and community settings.
I am regulated by the Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers. My clinical license number is L11289.
MY APPROACH
I am kind, calm, patient, respectful, and direct. I love to laugh and have a somewhat dry sense of humor. I hold space for whatever thought or emotion comes forth, including when you just have to laugh at yourself or the situation. My own experiences of trauma, anxiety, depression, oppression, and chronic illness have shaped me and my approach to psychotherapy in meaningful ways, and I bring these experiences into the therapy session as appropriate. I am a strong advocate of equity and social justice.
I practice from a non-judgmental, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally humble foundation with genuine interest and empathy. I especially emphasize client empowerment and self-determination in my practice.
I was trained/certified in Motivational Interviewing (MI) through previous graduate studies and employment. I incorporate concepts, activities, “homework”, and skills from cognitive behavior therapy (CBT).
I borrow from other therapeutic frameworks in an eclectic and adaptable way to best meet the client's needs including; brief solution focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and mindfulness, among others.
